Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism Policy
1. General Statement
Jurnal Ekonomika: Manajemen, Akuntansi and Islamic Banking is committed to maintaining originality, academic integrity, and ethical scholarly publishing. Plagiarism in any form is a violation of publication ethics and is not tolerated.
Plagiarism refers to the use of another person's words, ideas, data, research findings, images, tables, or other work without appropriate acknowledgment or citation. This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to the journal and articles published by the journal.
2. Forms of Plagiarism
Forms of misconduct covered by this policy include, but are not limited to:
-
Direct plagiarism, which involves copying text or portions of another person's work without proper quotation and attribution.
-
Paraphrasing plagiarism, which involves rewording material from another source without providing appropriate citation.
-
Idea plagiarism, which involves using another person's ideas, theories, methods, or intellectual contributions without proper acknowledgment.
-
Data and visual plagiarism, which involves using another party's data, tables, charts, images, or illustrations without appropriate attribution or permission where required.
-
Duplicate and overlapping publication, which involves republishing work or substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate disclosure and justification.
-
Self-plagiarism, which involves reusing substantial text or material from one's own previously published work without adequate citation, disclosure, or explanation.
-
Misuse of sources, which involves citing references that are irrelevant, inaccurate, or do not genuinely support the cited statements.
3. Manuscript Similarity Screening
Every manuscript submitted to Jurnal Ekonomika: Manajemen, Akuntansi and Islamic Banking will be screened using similarity-checking software to identify potential plagiarism.
The maximum permitted manuscript similarity index is 20%. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% will be returned to the authors for revision or may be rejected by the editor, depending on the results of the assessment.
The similarity percentage is not the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editor will carefully assess the similarity report by considering identified sources, direct quotations, references, common terminology, and the context of the matching text.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts meet the established similarity threshold and that all sources are properly cited before the manuscripts proceed to peer review.
4. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are original and that all sources have been properly acknowledged. Authors must:
-
Provide appropriate citations for ideas, data, and statements derived from other sources.
-
Use quotation marks for direct quotations in accordance with the author guidelines.
-
Ensure that references are accurate and correspond to sources actually used.
-
Disclose the reuse of material from previous publications, including their own work.
-
Ensure that images, tables, research instruments, and third-party materials are used with appropriate attribution and permission where required.
-
Respond to editorial requests for clarification concerning suspected similarity or plagiarism.
5. Handling Allegations of Plagiarism
When potential plagiarism is identified, the editor will assess the available evidence objectively and proportionately. Where necessary, the editor may request an explanation from the author and conduct additional checks against relevant sources.
Depending on the findings, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:
-
Request corrections to quotations, citations, or attribution when the issue is limited and remediable.
-
Request substantial revisions when material has not been adequately cited.
-
Reject the manuscript if plagiarism is established or the misconduct is considered serious.
-
Publish a correction or retract a published article if the violation meets the relevant criteria.
-
Contact the author's institution or another appropriate authority when necessary, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before a decision is made, while the integrity of scholarly publication is safeguarded.
6. Actions Concerning Published Articles
If plagiarism is identified after publication, the editor will evaluate the severity of the violation and its effect on the integrity of the article. Depending on the evidence and seriousness of the misconduct, actions may include a correction, an expression of concern, or retraction.
Correction and retraction notices will transparently explain the reasons for the action. Retracted articles will not simply be removed from the publication record; their retracted status will be clearly indicated in accordance with the journal's procedures.
7. Commitment to Academic Integrity
Jurnal Ekonomika: Manajemen, Akuntansi and Islamic Banking encourages authors to uphold academic honesty, respect for the work of others, accurate citation, and transparency in scholarly publishing. All parties involved in the journal's publication process are expected to comply with this policy to maintain the quality and credibility of scholarly publications.
