Correction and Retraction
Correction and Retraction
Jurnal Ekonomika: Management, Accounting and Islamic Banking is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and accountability of scholarly publications. The journal applies a correction and retraction policy to ensure that the scholarly record remains reliable and that issues affecting the integrity of published articles are addressed responsibly.
Corrections and retractions are handled based on editorial evaluation, available evidence, the seriousness of the error or misconduct, and the principles of publication ethics. Each case is assessed objectively, fairly, and transparently, with due consideration for the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
1. Correction
A correction is issued when an error is identified in a published article and requires an official amendment, but does not undermine the overall reliability of the research findings or conclusions.
Corrections may address typographical errors, author affiliation information, inaccuracies in tables or figures, metadata errors, and other factual or technical mistakes that can be corrected without compromising the fundamental integrity of the article.
Correction requests may be submitted by authors, editors, reviewers, or readers and should include a clear explanation and relevant supporting evidence. The editor will evaluate the request and determine whether a correction is warranted.
A published correction will identify the amended information and, where relevant, explain its impact on the interpretation of the research findings. The correction notice will be linked to the original article to ensure transparency and traceability.
2. Retraction
A retraction may be issued when convincing evidence indicates that an article contains serious problems that undermine the reliability of its findings or conclusions, or that it substantially violates publication ethics.
Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:
-
Fabrication or falsification of research data or findings.
-
Plagiarism or the use of third-party material without appropriate attribution.
-
Duplicate publication or publication practices that violate applicable exclusivity requirements.
-
Manipulation of images, data, analyses, or research results in a manner that materially misleads readers.
-
Fundamental errors that render the article's findings or conclusions unreliable.
-
Serious violations of research ethics approval requirements or research participants' rights.
-
Authorship or research contributions obtained through unethical practices.
-
Undisclosed conflicts of interest when they are shown to have seriously compromised research integrity or the publication process.
Retraction will not be imposed solely because of scientific disagreement or because research findings differ from expectations. A retraction decision must be based on a proportionate assessment of the evidence and the seriousness of the issue.
3. Handling Procedures
When a potential error or ethical violation is identified in a published article, the editor will conduct a preliminary assessment and may request explanations from the authors and other relevant parties.
Where necessary, the editor may consult the authors' affiliated institutions or other appropriately qualified parties. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before a decision is made, except in exceptional circumstances where prompt action is necessary to protect readers or the integrity of the scholarly record.
Based on the findings, the editor may decide to:
-
Take no action if the evidence is insufficient.
-
Issue a correction when the error can be amended without undermining the article's overall reliability.
-
Publish an Expression of Concern when a serious issue remains under investigation.
-
Retract the article when sufficient grounds establish that it should no longer be relied upon as part of the scholarly record without a clear retraction notice.
Editorial decisions must be documented and communicated appropriately to the relevant parties.
4. Publication of Correction and Retraction Notices
Correction and retraction notices will be published separately and linked to the relevant article. Each notice will explain the reasons for the action clearly and factually, subject to applicable legal, privacy, and ethical considerations.
Retracted articles will remain in the journal's archive to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record and will be clearly marked as retracted. Bibliographic information and the retraction notice will remain accessible wherever practicable.
5. Responsibilities of Authors and Editors
Authors are expected to promptly notify the editor if they discover a material error or ethical issue in a published article. They should cooperate with the investigation and provide relevant information and supporting evidence.
Editors are responsible for assessing each case independently, protecting sensitive information, avoiding conflicts of interest in decision-making, and ensuring that any action taken is proportionate to the seriousness of the issue.
This policy aims to maintain readers' trust, protect the integrity of the scholarly record, and promote responsible publishing practices at Jurnal Ekonomika.
